Sponsorship Accreditation

Posted on October 25, 2020 by Benson Shi

If your business is regularly sponsoring foreign workers, you may want to consider becoming an accredited sponsor.

When a sponsor is awarded accredited status, they will receive priority processing of all nomination and visa applications within a week if both applications are fully documented.

In addition to priority processing:

  • labour market testing requirements are more relaxed you may post your advertisements on your website, rather than national recruitment websites
  • the 482-visa applicant will not need to provide international police clearance certificates for every country in which they have resided (if the business is able to attest to their good character)

There are 4 categories of an accredited sponsor:

Category 1: Commonwealth, state, or territory government agency

  • Australian workers comprise at least 75% of their workforce in Australia

Category 2: Trusted traders

  • Australian workers comprise at least 75% of their workforce in Australia etc.

Category 3: Low risk sponsor with low volume usage and high percentage of Australian workers

  • Australian workers comprise at least 85% of workforce in Australia
  • Not a sole trader or a partnership
  • Annual turnover of at least four million for the last two years
  • Standard business sponsor for at least one year
  • Nominations approved for at least one primary 457/482 visa holder in the last two years.

Category 4: Low risk sponsor with high volume usage and medium percentage of Australian workers.
