Australia Week in China –

After the recent introduction of the China Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA), Austrade held the Australia Week in China from the 11-15 April 2016.

The event took place in a number of cities including Hong Kong, Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shanyang, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and finally came to a close in Shanghai. The event was led by the Minister for Trade and Investment Steven Ciobo and attracted a number of high level Federal and State members as well as many business delegates.

The event received a great deal of attention and is considered Australia’s largest business delegation to China to date. The event included discussions on trade, investment, education, health, agribusiness and tourism. The week’s events highlighted the opportunities for the affluent middle class in China and the ChAFTA.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull completed his first official visit to China for the event. During his time in Beijing, Prime Minister Turnbull meet with President Xi Jinping and attended the annual leaders’ meeting with Premier Li Keqiang.
